Does Your Bra Fit Correctly?
When wearing your bra you should be able to put it on and forget about it; this is especially important on one of the biggest days of your life. The last thing you will want is to spend your Wedding Day adjusting your bra straps or re-arranging your bra position because it is digging in and causing you discomfort.
Sizes and shapes of bras can have a big influence on the level of support offered and the shape a bra gives you. Before you start to try on Wedding dresses it is a good idea to have your underwear already selected, this will then give you a much better idea of how a dress fits and looks.
When it comes to fitting your dress most shopkeepers or dress makers will tell you to make sure you wear your underwear at every fitting. The reason for this is that the dress will be fitted according to your shape and your underwear will be helping to achieve the shape you want.
When trying a bra on for the first time ensure it fits snugly around the body when secured on the middle hook. This will enable it to be tightened up if the fabric eases with wear, or loosened if required.
The centre section of the bra between the cups should sit flat against the body with the cup underwires resting on the ribcage, supporting the bust. If the centre section is being pushed away from the body it is likely that a larger cup size is needed.
The bra cups should fit over the bust itself and there should be no bulge over the top of, or beneath, the cups. If this happens then a bra with a larger cup size should be selected.
The bra straps should fit snugly over the shoulders giving support, but not cutting into the shoulders themselves. The bra band should fit comfortably around the body. If the bra causes pain by digging in to the rib cage, or shoulders, or causes red marks and indentations then the bra is too small. You may need a larger band size.
The bra band should sit around the body, fitting firmly but not digging in. If the strap rides up at the back the shoulder straps could be too tight or a larger band size is required.
